Kulungu Corporation 2024 Impact Statement

KULUNGU CORPORATION, 501(c)3 Nonprofit Organization
Kulungu Corporation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Maryland. The purpose of our organization is to conduct charitable activities to benefit the citizens of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in Africa.
Mission Statement
The Kulungu Corporation exists to promote and improve the quality of medical care, education, and well-being in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We are also passionate about the empowerment of women.
The Kulungu Corporation has begun efforts to raise $160 million USD for a 1100-bed hospital in the DRC. This will be the largest cancer hospital in Africa.

Additionally, Kulungu Corporation is working to raise funds for the immediate shipment of medical supplies that the Kulungu Corporation has received from hospitals in the United States. While these medical supplies have the potential to save millions of lives, a substantial portion of the supplies may expire if not shipped.
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
The DRC is a nation of stunning natural beauty and incredible cultural diversity. The DRC is the second largest country in Africa with a population of approximately 100 million people. The oldest national park in Africa is the Congo’s Virunga National Park. It is home to rare mountain gorillas, lions, and elephants. The DRC is among the most resource-rich countries on the planet, with an abundance of gold, tantalum, tungsten, and tin – all minerals used in electronics such as cell phones and laptops – yet it continues to have an extremely poor population.
The Ravages of Conflict
The DRC's healthcare problems have been compounded by the ongoing conflict and war in the region. Since 1996, conflict in the eastern region of the DRC has led to the loss of an upwards of 10 million lives and has left an estimated five million orphans. The consequences of this protracted conflict have had a devastating impact on the country's healthcare system, exacerbating the already dire situation.
Despite ongoing armed conflict in Eastern Congo which has led to the deterioration of the situation and the continued loss of human lives, Kulungu Corporation pursued our goal of saving and improving human lives.
In 2024, the Democratic Republic of the Congo witnessed one of the worst years in the nation’s history. More than seven million people were internally displaced due to the conflict, a record number of cases of sexual violence were reported, a number of outbreaks and new diseases were reported, and medical facilities lacked basic medical supplies and were not appropriately equipped to deal with these outbreaks. Children were the most affected and millions faced acute food insecurity.
Kulungu Corporation Current Projects
Construction of the largest Research and Cancer Hospital in Africa to be located in DRC.
Providing medical supplies to hospitals and clinics in DRC.
Increasing access to clean water for rural communities.
Seminars and training in areas of conflict resolution.
Empowering women and girls.
Providing micro-credits to women and widows.
Projects to train surgical technicians in rural areas.
Assistance for orphans including food, clean water, and equipment.
Technology and computer centers.
In 2024, we were able to bring medical supplies to Congo which were distributed to hospitals and clinics in need. We also assisted those facing the severe humanitarian crisis. Micro-credits were provided to women, and we supported girls who could not afford education. Furthermore, financial assistance was provided to those who could not afford to pay their medical bills. The majority of medical supplies, received using generous contributions from Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Johns Hopkins Hospital, are still in the United States pending shipment. Resources are needed to fund their shipment to DRC. We would also like to thank Boston Children's Hospital for their support.
Hospital Fundraising Campaign
Kulungu Corporation has launched an ongoing fundraising campaign for the hospital construction project. The total cost of the hospital construction is estimated at $160 million USD. The hospital represents a beacon of hope for a nation that has faced numerous healthcare challenges and endured the ravages of civil conflict. It symbolizes a significant investment in improving the lives of African people, by not only addressing immediate medical needs but also paving the way for a brighter and healthier future.
